Understanding the difference between these two licensing categories is essential for every contributor, as it determines how a physical artwork, digital artwork, photograph, video, or any other creative work can legally be used by buyers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Having a clear understanding of these concepts not only helps maximize opportunities but also minimizes potential losses that many contributors often overlook. For example, selecting the wrong licensing category may result in your submission being rejected or even violating the platform&#8217;s licensing policies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Commercial Content<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Commercial content refers to visual works created to support business, advertising, or marketing activities. Its primary purpose is to help companies, brands, or individuals promote their products, services, or brand identity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Since commercial content is intended for promotional purposes, it must comply with stricter legal requirements. Any recognizable person appearing in an image must provide consent through a Model Release. Likewise, if the image includes privately owned property, artwork, murals, or other protected objects, a Property Release is typically required.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Additionally, commercial content should not display company logos, trademarks, copyrighted designs, or any intellectual property that could infringe upon the rights of others without proper authorization.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Examples of commercial use include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Product advertisements<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Corporate websites<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Marketing brochures<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Promotional banners<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Business social media campaigns<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Billboards<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Television commercials<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In short, if an image is intended to promote a product, service, company, or generate commercial value, it must qualify as Commercial Content.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Editorial Content<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Unlike commercial content, editorial content is created to inform, educate, document real-life events, or support news reporting. Editorial content cannot be used to advertise, endorse, or sell products or services.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One of the main advantages of editorial licensing is that photographers or creators generally do not need model releases or property releases in many situations. Commercial content requires more comprehensive legal permissions because it is intended for advertising, branding, and other promotional purposes.
